Types of Oil Filter
Full-Flow Oil Filter
The full-flow oil filter, also known as a primary oil filter, is the most common type used in cars. It efficiently cleans and removes impurities from all the oil used by the engine, making it ideal for colder temperatures where oil thickening can occur during cold starts.
Cartridge Oil Filter
The cartridge oil filter is a simplified version of the full-flow filter, mounted upright for easy inspection without oil removal. It is available in both metal and fibre variants, with fibre filters being more commonly used due to their recyclability.
Spin-On Oil Filter
The spin-on oil filter consists of a steel canister housing a paper element. Its simple installation and minimal tool requirement make it user-friendly, enabling car owners to replace it easily.
Spinner Oil Filter
A spinner oil filter is a secondary filter that employs centrifugal force to trap contaminants from the engine oil. Some variants can generate forces exceeding 2,000 times that of gravity, effectively removing even the tiniest contaminants from the motor oil.
The working principle of oil filters is straightforward. Oil enters the device through small holes on the outer edge base flange and then passes through the filter for cleaning. Subsequently, the cleaned oil returns to the engine through a larger center hole.
Today, most oil filters are equipped with an anti-drain-back valve, often in the form of a rubber membrane located at the perimeter holes in the base flange. This membrane opens when oil enters the filter case under pressure and closes the holes when the engine is at rest. This ensures that oil remains within the filter and prevents engine dry starts, a situation where the engine starts without sufficient lubrication.
Modern internal combustion engines are equipped with a secondary oil filter, known as a bypass filter, as an additional protection measure. The bypass filter allows oil to bypass the main filter under specific circumstances, such as very cold weather when oil may thicken. It also allows unfiltered oil to pass through when the main filter is clogged. This helps to prevent engine starvation and ensures proper lubrication even in challenging conditions.
Maintain of Oil Filter
The oil filter is mainly composed of two parts: the filter element and the shell. Of course, there are also auxiliary parts such as seal ring, support spring and bypass valve, which play a big role as well.
Under normal circumstances, the warranty period of the oil filter is 6 months after the date of delivery or the mileage reaches 5000 km. In the replacement, basically the oil and oil filter are replaced together. If not replaced for a long time, it may cause the loss of oil filter function, and ultimately affect the engine work.
Proper installation and regular replacement of oil filter can prevent impurities from mixing into the oil during the use of internal combustion engine and prevent the wear of moving parts and oil blockage. When replacing the lubricating oil, the oil filter must be replaced at the same time, so as to better ensure the efficacy of the lubricating oil and not affect the quality of the lubricating oil.

Contaminant Removal: Engines naturally produce dirt particles and combustion residues like dust, metal debris, and oil carbons. Oil filters effectively collect these contaminants, preventing them from entering the engine.

Prevention of Oil Thickening: Soot can accumulate and thicken the oil over time. To avoid thickened oil from impeding proper engine function, oil filters are equipped with thinning holes that regulate the oil flow from the pump to the engine.
Protection of Moving Parts: The critical moving parts within the engine, such as connecting rods, camshaft, and valvetrain, are vulnerable to wear and damage caused by contaminants. An effective oil filter safeguards these components, prolonging their lifespan and enhancing engine durability.
